Genocide and Democracy: Insurgent Native American Prints, Public Art, and Studio Practice

AMERICAN STUDIES- University of Hawai’i at MAnoa

In Fall 2016, I co-organized a program around visiting artist and educator Edgar Heap of Birds at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. We invited Edgar to be an artist in residence where he created a new set of prints while engaging with students and faculty through workshops and discussions on genocide, democracy, and insurgent art practice. This model allowed for sustained engagement with a visiting artist and created opportunities for students to gain experience as a studio apprentice. In partnership with Charles Cohan in the Department of Art & Art History. Flyer design Shonelle Sosa.
